What is new at the Corner?

At the Corner of Elm and School Street is collection of Artists, Businesses, Studios, Westfield Arts on the Green 501(c)(3) non profit, and Gallery 24 that are know as Creative Corner.

The businesses include Gallery 24, World Peace Beads, Prema Vidya Yoga Studio, and Piece of my Art.  The Artists are Carol R. Balise, Hilary Carl, Jeffrey Caron, Kim Gilies. Laura Kamyk, John R. Mitchell, Charlie Leeland Moore, Gerald Tracy
and Rennata Tropeano. Other local creative locations include Westfield Yarn and Thread Studio, and Leo's Gallery and Deli.

Gallery 24 features a wide range Art including Paintings, Pottery, Textile Art, Jewelry, Photography, Sculpture,  Mixed Media  and hand bound journals.  Rennata Tropeano, one of the artists notes " There is something here for everyone, the styles range from  Traditional to Modern. We have regional art from New England to the South West. We have even included smaller works with prices as low as $10.00 to include something that would fit into even the smallest room and the smallest budget."

Classes are being offered by artists, Carol Balise, Hilary Carl, Kim Gilies, and Rennata Tropeano.  We are even offering a series  of free workshops on collage and Mixed-Media on Thursdays 6:00pm to 7:00pm during the month of February.  They will be a make and take of an ATC or Artist's Trading Card, a small piece of art that is the size of a collectable card such as a baseball card or the collectible trading card games.  "The idea is that it allows you to take on a project that is fun, not intimidating, can be completed in an hour, and helps many people to realize that creativity is not the same as being able to draw realistic items." notes Rennata Tropeano.   "We decided to include more make and take workshops into the Gallery's Schedule as a result of the popularity of the ones we offered during the Dickens Days stroll."

Gallery 24 has two openings coming up this month,  "Passions" opening on Friday February 5th, and "Fantastic Fibers" opening on February 20th. There will be a small reception for both at the gallery at 6:00pm on the respective Fridays.

"Passions" will feature a collection of smaller art works and art gifts that make a more meaningful and lasting gift than chocolates or flowers.  "Fantastic Fibers" will feature textile based art. Artist Carol R. Balise will be showing her collection of needle felted vessels, along with other textile treasures.

The Artist of Gallery 24  have been excited to participate in events such as the Winter Lights art auction hosted by the Westfield BID and Westfield on Weekends, and the Small Art Auction for Westfield Art on the Green.  When we opened in September, it was our goal to help bring art into downtown, and it continues to be our goal today.
